Tuesday is the first official day to file an application for a permit to demonstrate against Chicago’s G8 and NATO summits.
Petitioners were lining up outside the Transportation Department Office at City Hall where the petitions are filed. They say they want Mayor Rahm Emanuel to keep his promise to protect civil liberties and end threats to demonstrators.
The summits will be held downtown May 19-21. Organizers are planning for a May 19 rally at Daley Plaza with a march to McCormick Place where the worldwide summit will take place.
