The Saints stamped themselves as Super Bowl contenders with a dominating 48-27 rout of the Giants Sunday before 70,011 at the Superdome.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees, given excellent protection by his offensive line, threw for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns. At one point in the first half Brees completed 15 consecutive passes. Brees was not sacked.

I asked coach Sean Payton what does this win mean big picture? His reply, "I don't think you can talk big picture after week 5."

Giants quarterback Eli Manning, who prepped at Newman school uptown, completed only 14 of 31 passes for 178 yards. The Giants quickly fell behind 14-0 when Brees hit former Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey for a 1 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The Saints have not trailed this season. New Orleans (5-0) and Minnesota (6-0) are the only unbeaten teams in the NFC.

The Falcons beat the Bears Sunday night 21-14. Atlanta (4-1) plays the Saints at the Superdome Monday night November 2nd.
