The Tulane University women's basketball team accepted a bid in the 2011 Women's NIT Tournament.

The 22-10 (9-7 in C-USA play) Green Wave will host 20-11 (15-3 in SWAC play) Southern University in a first round game Thursday night at 7 pm at Fogelman Arena.

This is Tulane's third trip to the WNIT.

The Green Wave's other trips to the WNIT were after the 1993-94 season and after the 2006-07 season.

Southern won the SWAC regular season title. The Lady Jags lost to Prairie View 48-44 in the SWAC tournament title game Saturday night in Garland, Texas.

Tulane lost to Central Florida 85-73 in the Conference USA women's tournament title game Saturday night in El Paso, Texas.

This is Tulane's 13th overall post-season bid -- 12 of which have come under the leadership of head coach Lisa Stockton -- in her 17th season with the Green Wave.

Southern leads the all-time series against Tulane 4 to 1.

This will be the first time Southern and Tulane women's teams have met since December 28, 1984. The Jaguars beat the Green Wave 73-55 in New Orleans that night. The last time the Green Wave beat the Jags was February 24, 1983 -- when Tulane beat Southern 76-67 in Fogelman Arena.

Tulane has a 2-3 all-time record in the WNIT. Tulane's last trip to the WNIT was in 2007. The Green Wave beat Jackson State 76-43 on March 14th of that year, but lost their next game against Mississippi State in Starkville 79-73 on March 18th to finish with a 26-7 record.

The winner of this game will face the winner of Thursday's TCU-Oral Roberts contest in the second round. The time and location of that second round game has yet to be announced.
