NEW ORLEANS—It was the final touch on one of the top recruiting classes in the country.
Evangel defensive end Jermauria Rasco told a packed gym at his school, "I am taking my talents to .. " He then put on an LSU cap and the crowd roared its approval.
Rasco was one of the final blue chips in the country to announce his intentions. He chose LSU over Florida and Florida State.
He was one of 22 LSU signed on national signing day. The Tigers class was ranked as high as 6th nationally by various recruiting services.
Among the locals signing with LSU were defensive end Anthony Johnson of O Perry Walker, Newman receiver Odell Beckham, Franklinton quarterback Terrence Magee, tackles Jonah Austin and Trai Turner of St Aug, and wide receiver Jarvis Landry of Lutcher.
Tulane also signed 22, including 11 in-state and 7 locals.
Tulane landed three from St Aug. They were safety Renaldo Thomas, defensive end Lawrence Burl, and wide receiver Marc Edwards.
The Wave also signed Edwards' first cousin, running back Dante' Butler of Brother Martin.
Tulane head coach Bob Toledo survived a late scare for the services of O Perry Walker running back Robert Kelley. Kelley signed with the Green Wave despite a late push by the University of Minnesota.
Said Toledo, "He gave us a little scare at the end because Minnesota was pounding on him pretty hard. All you have to do is look at the weather report, you can't fly an airplane in there, so . So he made a good decision."
