The search for a Hornets head coach will apparently not include any head coaches from the college ranks.

Wednesday team president Hugh Weber said, "I think we would gravitate to someone who has had success at the pro level." Weber said the search could take time because several of the candidates are still working.

Two prominent names mentioned in the search are former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy and former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. A source said Van Gundy may not be ready to return to coaching.

Does the fact that Johnson is a native of New Orleans work in his favor? Said Weber, "I think people in New Orleans lvoe a winner, I think people like Sean Payton too.. and I don't think he was born here."

Tuesday, the club announced that Jeff Bower would relinquish his coaching duties and return to his role as fulltime general manager.
