The Saints made the choice rumored for weeks: offensive line coach Aaron Kromer will take over for Joe Vitt for the first six games of the season.
By promoting Kromer the Saints leave the offense to Pete Carmichael and coordinating the defense to Steve Spagnuolo.
Ask his offensive line: Kromer can be very forceful and direct and appears to have leadership skills.
The Saints have a lot of continuity in their organization, so the transition has a chance to go quite smoothly. But, this is no easy job, even when you're coaching a talented team.
Kromer will have to make in-game decisions and any of relevance will be dissected intensely.
I can hear it now: "What would Sean Payton do?"
The saints have six games riding on Kromer, but Kromer has much more. He's been rumored as a possible head coaching candidate. If he succeeds in the first 6 games, he only enhances his chances to be a head coach elsewhere. But if he flops, his chances for promotion take a hit.
Aaron Kromer's audition is about to commence. His chances of success are considerable.
