(WGN-AM) - A Wheeling resident who was fighting to keep her five dogs has won her battle with the village.
A Cook County Circuit Court judge ruled Monday that Margaret Bucher can keep her fifth dog, the one that violated Wheeling's four-pet limit.
Bucher represented herself in court and argued that the village ordinance did not specify four pets per household, but instead four pets per person.
"I had no money for an attorney, but I thought I'm gonna fight to the last for this pup," Bucher said.
Bucher would have faced a fine between $50 and $500 per day, but after 35 minutes of hearing arguments from both sides, the judge sided with Bucher.
