The Salem Spartans had turned the ball over seven times in their first two games of the season.  Friday night they were inside Salem Stadium for their home opener against a William Byrd team that has always seemed to give the Spartans fits under Jeff Highfill.

The Salem fans were rocking and rolling at Salem Stadium.  Their team was up 20 to 7 at the break.  Late in the 3rd quarter the Spartans were forced to punt, Isaiah Harris takes the snap but the balls goes over his head, running back to the 10 yd line but the Terriers recover with excellent field position.

On the next play, Zac Hill completes the pass to Seth Webb over the middle for a William Byrd touchdown,  but the PAT is no good - 20-13 Salem.

In the 4th quarter, the Spartans move the ball all the way down to the 10 yard line when Matt Hill is dropped by Simeon Horstmann forcing a fumble.

On the next play, just when it looks like the Terriers are poised to tie this game up, Kendrick Hochstetler returns the favor for the Spartans on the William Byrd fumble.

Salem would not give up the ball this time, as Jordan Daniels ices this one for the Spartans with a three yard TD run.  Salem takes out Byrd 27 to 13.
