In Alleghany, the William Byrd Terriers, fresh off some late game heroics last week, tried to keep thing going against the Mountaineers, and avoid looking ahead to the Northside game next week.
It was breast cancer awareness night at Alleghany this week and pink was in.
On the first play from scrimmage, Alleghany quarterback Nick Ferrell hit Trent Rush down the sideline for an 18 yard pickup good for a first down. Five plays later the Terriers James Stinnette stepped in front of the Ferrell pass and then turned in a nifty return of 20 yards back to the Mountaineers 36. Two plays after that, Byrd's Zac Hilll broke a tackle at the second level and won the footrace to the endzone and it was 7-nothing Byrd just five minutes in.
The Mountaineers went three and out before Michael Crosswhite fielded the punt and found some daylight along the sideline. He returned it 43 yards, slicing and dicing to put the Terriers in business again at the Alleghany 24 That led to Simeon Horstman, on second and goal from the 7, running off tackle for another Byrd TD and it was 14-nothing Terriers.
Jeff Highfill's team goes on to whip Alleghany 48 to 0.
