  • A way to ramp up access from I-78

A way to ramp up access from I-78
Q: I have a question regarding the Emmaus Avenue interchange, Exit 58, of Interstate 78. The way the ramp is constructed, you can only access Emmaus Avenue southbound. While driving past the ramp on Emmaus Avenue, I came to the realization that the ramp could easily serve both southbound and northbound Emmaus Avenue. This would help motorists coming from I-78 westbound who want to head north on Emmaus Avenue, especially those unfamiliar to Allentown. My guess is that they'll have to create a new ramp that branches off the old one and that will connect to a new signalized intersection with Emmaus Avenue (similar to the Exit 57 ramp from I-78 westbound to Emmaus Avenue). Has PennDOT noticed this problem, and is there a likely solution in the near future?
