  1. Blocking entry of radicals is good for Israel and U.S.

In their commentary, Zainab Choudry and Saqib Ali ("Don't let Israel discriminate," April 30) objected to Senate Bill 462 (the U.S.-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013) introduced recently in the U.S. Senate that advocates Israel's right to deny entry into its country of certain people. Therefore, according to them, this bill would allow Israel to "discriminate against select groups of Americans, including Americans who expressed criticism of its policies." Ms. Choudry and Mr. Ali also misguidedly disapproved of U.S. Sen. Benjamin Cardin for supporting the bill.

  3. Towson costumer passes on her passion for history to her students

Nora Worthington, the resident costumer for the Baltimore School for the Arts, has long loved the idea of dressing up and living the past. As a sixth-grader, she starred in Hampton Elementary School's Bicentennial production, and she visited her two grandmothers who had houses overflowing with antiques.

  5. What will happen to weapons the U.S. gives to Syria's rebels?

Does it occur to anyone in the left-wing Obama administration that arming Syrian rebels with modern weapons will result in arming a group of fighters who live just across the border from Israel ("The best bad option," May 2)?

  7. Obama's red line on Syria gets squiggly

The hawks are squawking. Congressional conservatives and the right-wing media are blasting President Barack Obama for going soft on the Syrians. The president insists there is a "game-changing" red line the Syrian government will have crossed if it is found to have used chemical weapons against its people, but he has bent the red line so far, the hawks say, that not only the Syrians, but the Iranians and North Koreans will conclude Mr. Obama is a man with a marshmallow spine whose warnings can be flouted with impunity.

  9. 1813 invasion of Havre de Grace re-created for weekend visitors

People fled in panic when British troops invaded Havre de Grace 200 years ago, as rockets rained down on the city and soldiers and Marines stormed through the streets, ransacking and burning homes, businesses and houses of worship.

  13. Bush a liar? Obama is worse

The Sun again stupidly goes after President George W. Bush for the Iraq War and the weapons of mass destruction, calling him a liar ("Misoverestimating Bush," April 28). Even you people know that no American president would send U.S. troops into battle for no reason.

  15. Obama must find the best bad option in Syria

Having vowed that any use of chemical weapons by Syria would cross a U.S. "red line" and provoke a strong American response "with enormous consequences," President Barack Obama now finds himself under increasing pressure to act, following reports by U.S. and foreign intelligence agencies that the regime of President Bashar Assad used deadly sarin gas against opponents last year. The problem for Mr. Obama is that the military options for enforcing his promise range from bad to very bad — while the risks of doing nothing may be even worse.

  17. Chechens in U.S. feel shame, fear over Boston bombing

When Albina Digaeva, a Chechen who was granted political asylum in the United States, first learned that the Boston bombing suspects were from Chechnya, she called the California family who initially put her up when she arrived 15 years ago and apologized.

Ordinarily, I'd thank you for writing. But truth is, I am not grateful you wrote; your note last week was one of the more troubling things I have read. I do not blame you for leaving it unsigned. "We stand together," I had written. "We stand defiant....
