1. Library brings musical side of Lincoln to life

Enjoy a truly unique musical role-playing experience with General Grant and President Lincoln. Will and Bernadine Boyce have spent years perfecting their impersonations of General and Mrs. Grant (along with other Civil War personalities) and Dr. Duke Thompson, director of the Maryland Conservatory of Music, has recently conceived a concert performance unlike any other he has ever done. Together these presenters will bring an entertaining program entitled "Dr. Duke and Mr. President" to Harford County on June 1.

3. Vietnam-era anti-war act in Catonsville still resonates

Mary Murphy looked up from the paperwork on her desk one day in May 1968.
Mary Murphy looked up from the paperwork on her desk one day in May 1968. A man stood in the doorway of her office — a Catholic priest. He was staring at her. "Can I help you, sir?" said Mary Murphy. The man in the doorway didn't hesitate....

5. Two members of the Catonsville Nine return after 45 years

One of the most catalytic anti-war actions of the Vietnam War happened at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville in 1968, but most people wouldn't know it by looking at the building today. Not even two people who were there.

7. Keep Md. Guard safe — and home

I wish to express how delighted I am that the Maryland National Guard is seeing its final deployment to Afghanistan ("Md. Guard preparing for Afghanistan, and after," May 10). Now, let's bring all of them home from the all the other hellholes. (Kosovo, perhaps?)

11. Should we continue to be the indispensable nation?

In Hillary Clinton's farewell remarks in February on stepping down as President Barack Obama's secretary of state, she echoed one of her predecessors, Madeleine Albright, declaring America to be "the indispensable nation."

13. Back Story: Defending Havre de Grace from British attack

On this morning 200 years ago, a plucky Irish immigrant, John O'Neill, matched wits with British Adm. Sir George Cockburn, a veteran sea dog in command of a fleet of 19 vessels that sailed into Havre de Grace during the War of 1812.

15. 'Hit & Stay' looks to Catonsville Nine and beyond

Joe Tropea thought he was writing a research paper on the Catonsville Nine, a group of Catholic anti-war activists who set draft records ablaze outside a Selective Service office in 1968. But what he was really working on was a movie script.

17. It's time to stop blaming Bush

I am not a fan of former President George W. Bush, but I must comment on the hatchet job that was The Sun's editorial about the opening of the Bush library in Dallas ("Misoverestimating Bush," April 28).

19. Towson costumer passes on her passion for history to her students

Nora Worthington, the resident costumer for the Baltimore School for the Arts, has long loved the idea of dressing up and living the past. As a sixth-grader, she starred in Hampton Elementary School's Bicentennial production, and she visited her two grandmothers who had houses overflowing with antiques.

21. What will happen to weapons the U.S. gives to Syria's rebels?

Does it occur to anyone in the left-wing Obama administration that arming Syrian rebels with modern weapons will result in arming a group of fighters who live just across the border from Israel ("The best bad option," May 2)?

23. Obama's red line on Syria gets squiggly

The hawks are squawking. Congressional conservatives and the right-wing media are blasting President Barack Obama for going soft on the Syrians. The president insists there is a "game-changing" red line the Syrian government will have crossed if it is found to have used chemical weapons against its people, but he has bent the red line so far, the hawks say, that not only the Syrians, but the Iranians and North Koreans will conclude Mr. Obama is a man with a marshmallow spine whose warnings can be flouted with impunity.
