  1. What peace with the Palestinians requires

Palestinians have been firing dozens of rockets from Gaza into southern Israel recently, hitting cities and civilians ("Palestinians to seek elevated status in U.N.," Nov. 13). Yet not much attention has been given to the fact that Israeli families who...

  3. Obama goes soft on Iran — again

After listening to speeches during the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly, I concluded that both U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad do not take each other seriously. Mr. Obama repeated his old...

  5. Understanding Arab anger

With all the protests and violence in Arab and Muslim countries generated by a despicable and demeaning film about Islam, here is a sobering prediction: There will be more such films and clips, they will be even more provocative, and they will generate even more violent reaction among Arabs and Muslims. And no matter who is behind them, many will see the hands of Israel and the United States.

  7. On Jerusalem, the U.S. must be an honest broker for peace

Commentator Robert Pines could not have been more wrong in his statement that East Jerusalem was "annexed" by Israel in 1967 ("U.S. must recognize Israel's capital," Aug. 15). The facts are that Israel started a war in 1967 in order to steal...

  9. U.S. needs to hold Israel accountable

The article, "Jewish population hits new high in West Bank," (July 27) states that 350,000 Jewish settlers now occupy the West Bank, as well as nearly 300,000 in the occupied East Jerusalem. Israel is in violation of international law, the 4th Geneva...

  11. Op-ed takes a too rosy view of Iranian intentions

Commentator Ray McGovern charges Israel with using the pretext of alleged Iranian support for terrorism, to "whip up support for war" ("Is Israel fixing the intel? Netanyahu's rhetoric has echoes of Bush administration's justification for the Iraq war,"...

  13. Gaza flotilla was not a peaceful aid convoy

The Sun's wording in "Report criticizes Netanyahu's handling of Gaza flotilla raid" (June 14) obscures elements influencing Israel's actions criticized by the Israeli state comptroller. While the article recognizes that the flotilla was "determined to...

  15. Mr. Abbas' mission

Signs of movement toward renewed cooperation between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have Israeli officials on edge. Israel considers Hamas a terrorist organization committed to its destruction and has shunned negotiations. In the wake of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' efforts last fall to sidestep negotiations with Israel and seek United Nations recognition of a Palestinian state, it is easy to see this as another ominous sign for the prospects for peace. But there is another possibility at work. If Mr. Abbas can capitalize on the regional developments in political Islam sparked by the Arab Spring and exert a moderating influence on Hamas' extremism, he could do much more to realize his goals than he ever could have achieved through his end-run to the UN.

  17. Hamas will never accede to peace with Israel

The Sun editorial "Mr. Abbas' mission" (Feb. 13) is a triumph of wishful thinking over analysis. Its self-contradictions and omissions include: •Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas "would have to exercise the kind of statesmanship that has...

  19. There's no moral equivalency between the Israeli and Palestinian 'narratives'

James W. Dale makes a welcome point in his commentary about the divestment campaign against Israel ("Choosing to stay engaged: Anti-Israel measures like divestment are not the best way to seek justice for Palestinians," May 4). It is, as he says, vital...

  21. President Obama caves in to Israel — again

The recent article about President Barack Obama's speech at the United Nations ("Obama stands by Israel at U.N.," Sept. 22 ) should have been headlined, "Obama caves in to Israel again." President Obama's vow to veto Palestinian statehood at the U.N. is...
