The Lantern Queen Riverboat, a traveling fixture on the Upper Chesapeake Bay and lower Susquehanna River since 1996, had made its last trip.
During a routine every-five-year inspection required by the U.S. Coast Guard, the boat was found to be suffering from a type of electrically induced corrosion that left parts of its hull dangerously thin. Realizing that repairing the Lantern Queen would cost more than its value, owners Carroll and Becky Fitzgerald decided to retire it, according to a news release.
Over the next few weeks, according to the release, all customers will be notified and any deposits or ticket purchases will be refunded.
