I was very moved by the tribute to Anne Smedinghoff, the Foreign Service officer killed in Afghanistan that recently appeared in The Sun especially the quote at the end from the poem, "Success," by Ralph Waldo Emerson ("Friends celebrate slain diplomat's zest," April 28). The poem is even more meaningful and appropriate to her life when several lines from that poem that precede those words are included.
