Miami International Airport is among the busiest airports in the world, and a major economic engine for Miami-Dade County. Operated by the county's Aviation Department, MIA was the nation's third busiest airport in foreign arrivals and departures in 2006, handling 14.7 million passengers. Another 17.5 million domestic travelers passed through the facility in 2006.
