What's up with Jack? En route to CTU with Henderson, Audrey tells Jack that Kim has arrived. Hearing that, Henderson tells Jack that he and Miriam took care of Kim after Jack's supposed death. Arriving at CTU, Jack must now face Kim as well as make Henderson talk.
What's up with President Logan? Logan has called Vice President, Hal Gardner, in to help with the terrorist threat. Gardner wants Logan to declare martial law in Los Angeles, basically locking down the entire city, without obtaining approval from Ccongress beforehand. Novick is dead against this but thinking it will help his image, Logan wants to go along with Gardner's plan.
What's up with Martha Logan? Novick tells Martha about Gardner's advice to Logan. He wants Martha to stand by Logan's side in order to dissuade him from going along with Gardner. Later Martha approaches Logan and affectionately puts her hand on his shoulder. She tells him she still loves him and that he needs to get back to work. She says the country needs him more than she does.
What's up with the terrorists? Ostroff reprograms McGill's keycard so his photo shows up on CTU's security system. Inside CTU he hacks into a computer containing the ventilation system layout. He's ready to arm a canister of nerve gas to deploy inside CTU.
What's up with Lynn McGill? Buchanan tells McGill that his sister, Jenny, and her boyfriend's bodies have been found murdered. He says that the job looked professional and McGill realizes what must have happened. He tells Buchanan that Jenny had stolen his keycard and CTU's security may have been breached with it.
How does it all end up? Jack looks ashamed and guilty when he sees Kim and tries explaining that he led her to believe he had died for her own protection. Barry Landes interjects obviously wanting to protect Kim. He leaves the room allowing Kim & Jack to talk alone. Kim tells Jack she's happy he's alive but she can't give him what he needs right now. Later, Audrey tells Jack that Barry is a clinical psychologist who treated Kim.
Henderson is strapped down in the interrogation room being given a serum to inflict agonizing pain. Jack is confident that Henderson will talk and goes in to question him. Henderson continues to refuse to talk so Jack has an agent give him more of the painful serum. Henderson cringes in pain.
Carrie, a CTU agent, notices something amiss with the ventilation system in her computer. Edgar is impatient and tells her to go check it out. Downstairs she sees the canister with a timer attached to it and goes for her phone to alert upstairs. Ostroff stabs her in the back killing her.
Buchanan has Chloe check to see if McGill's card has been used. She finds it was used within the hour. Buchanan calls for an immediate lockdown of CTU while Edgar spots Ostroff on his monitor and Jack heads downstairs to find him. Jack comes up from behind Ostroff. Ostroff tries to shoot him but Jack shoots him dead first. Jack realizes there's nerve gas in the building and Buchanan begins an immediate evacuation. As employees are hurrying to get out in time, Chloe yells at Edgar to get out of the building. Edgar goes downstairs and finds Carrie's body.
As Audrey is trying to get Kim and Barry out safely she sees people to collapsing, overcome from the nerve gas. Buchanan and Jack order Chloe to seal off as many rooms as she can. Jack, Chloe, Buchanan, Kim and Barry are sealed safely in the conference room. Jack has Henderson taken into the clinic isolation room and it's sealed off. People who were unable to make it into the sealed off sections of CTU are dropping dead. After the conference room has been completely sealed off, Chloe spots Edgar. He looks at Chloe through the window saying her name. Chloe says his name as she watches Edgar collapse onto the floor. Chloe cries knowing that Edgar cannot be saved.
