  5. Women's Hall of Fame to welcome 4 members

    The Howard County Women's Athletics Hall of Fame, established in 1997, welcomes four new inductees this year. Donna DeCarlo Schaaf (Mt. Hebron, 1983), Carolyn Micheel Cacolice (Oakland Mills, 1984), Raymona Jackson Reid (Howard, 1995) and Dale Huting, a three-sport coach at Centennial, will join the 64 men and women who have previously been inducted.

  7. Boys Athlete of the Week: Julian Woods, Century, indoor track

    The senior standout led the Century boys to their fourth straight Carroll County indoor track championship last Wednesday, winning three individual events and contributing to a victorious relay team. For a second straight year, Woods scored 40 points, winning the 55-meter dash (6.76), 55 hurdles (7.71), 300 dash (36.44), as well as running a leg on the victorious 800 relay in a time of 1 minute, 34.8 seconds. Century won the championship at Hagerstown Community College, defeating runner-up Liberty by a 177-78 margin. Last year, Woods won his second straight Class 2A state title in the 55 hurdles in the outdoor season to earn All-Metro first-team honors. He was an All-Metro second-team choice in the indoor season as a junior.

  21. Boys Athlete of the Week: Connor Cunningham, Loyola, indoor track and field

    The Dons' standout continued his strong junior season with another dominating performance in Friday's 12-team Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association group meet at Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex, capturing two individual events and taking part in a winning relay. Cunningham, in his first season indoors after competing in outdoor track and field for the first time last spring, won the long jump and triple jump Friday, was a member of the 800-meter relay team and also took fourth place in the 55-meter dash. It's the third consecutive meet (another MIAA meet and the Frostbite Invitational) in which he has swept the long and triple jump. His season-best long jump of 21 feet, 6 inches is the best in the Baltimore metro area this season, and his triple jump of 42 feet, 11 inches ranks second. Cunningham maintains a 3.7 grade point average at Loyola.
