A broken toe may have precluded a broken record, but it didn't deny victory to John Carroll's Steven Kutcher in the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The junior pole-vaulter, who recently broke the school record for the second time, claimed the MIAA title Jan. 29 by clearing 12 feet at the Prince George's Sportsplex in Landover. He did so after breaking a toe in an accident a week earlier.
Kutcher raised the school record by a foot to 12-6 last spring when he placed third in the MIAA outdoor meet. He broke the record again in January with a 13-0 vault. In winning last Friday, he edged McDonogh's Connor Motsko on fewer misses.
