Thursday's multi-sport local and college roundup: U.Va.'s Bird, VCU's Belmar chosen in MLS SuperDraft

PRO SOCCER: Virginia senior midfielder Eric Bird, who grew up in Virginia Beach, was chosen in the second round (41st overall) by the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer’s SuperDraft. Bird, who recovered from an injury to play late in the Cavaliers’ surprising run to the NCAA tournament championship, is a Cox High alumnus. Also chosen, 34th overall, was VCU forward Kharlton Belmar. He went to the Portland Timbers.
