Currently, it appears all NFL owners are vying for the prestigious Avery Brundage award. Mr. Brundage, the autocratic president of the International Olympic Committee during the 1968 Olympics, instructed the U.S. to send African-American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos home after their "human rights salute" on the podium in Mexico City. Quite simply using his celebrity status as a platform, Colin Kaepernick has been taking a knee during pre-game performance of the National Anthem to take a stand against the persistence of bigotry in this country, a country I'm sure he loves warts and all.
