Matt Kenseth

Low-key driver Matt Kenseth might go down in history as the man responsible for the current Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship format. Kenseth, 35, claimed the 2003 Winston Cup despite winning just one race in a points system that favored consistency over wins. Fans and media clamored over the lack of excitement and, consequently, NASCAR changed its championship formula in 2004 to include a 10-race playoff at the end of the season.

Fans and media clamored over the lack of excitement and, consequently, NASCAR changed its championship formula in 2004 to include a 10-race playoff at the end of the season.

Although Kenseth hasn't won a second championship, he isn't a stranger to Victory Lane. The pride of Cambridge, Wis. has 16 career victories and holds one other claim to fame: He's the only driver to ever win a Cup championship for car owner Jack Roush. In 2008, he'll drive the No. 17 DeWalt Ford for Roush Fenway Racing.
