Summary

Once looked upon as an understudy to Jeff Gordon at Hendrick Motorsports, Jimmie Johnson has placed Gordon in his rear-view mirror the past two seasons. In 2007, Johnson became the first driver to win consecutive NASCAR Cup championships since Gordon accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998. Ten of his 33 career wins came in 2007, including a remarkable run of four straight during the Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship. And at 32, the El Cajon, Calif., native is on a fast track to becoming one of the sport's all-time greats. Since making his Cup debut in 2002, he has never finished worse than fifth in the season standings. In 2008, he'll drive the No. 48, Lowe's Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.

Ky. Busch edges Johnson for flag
The Associated PressWith two laps left in a 400-mile race, Kyle Busch made sure he stayed close on a restart -- even if victory seemed doubtful. Sprint Cup race beyond the chase starts to add up for Kyle Busch
The Charlotte ObserverPerhaps it is not wise to see the finish of Saturday night's LifeLock.com 400 as some sort of demarcation between the respective fortunes of Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson. It, however, surely is tempting. When Johnson passed Busch for the lead with 16...Tags: Athletics, Track and Field, Joe Gibbs
