A truckload of freshly roasted sunflower seeds ignited inside a barn in Clear Spring but caused little damage, firefighters said. The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reported that farmer Arnold Campbell extinguished the fire and drove the vehicle out of his barn before firefighters arrived early Wednesday morning. Campbell said he roasted 250 bushels of seeds for livestock feed and loaded them into the trailer overnight. The seeds hadn't cooled down before Campbell loaded them, Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Reid said. The trailer sustained some damage but doesn't appear to be a total loss, Reid said.
