50 years ago: Police, bystanders lift truck to rescue passengers trapped in car underneath

As taken from the pages of The Aegis dated Thursday, November 29, 1962: Five New Yorkers escaped death in an incident involving a loaded tractor trailer on Route 40. The truck ran off the right side of Route 40, a mile and a half east of Edgewood, just as a station wagon was passing it. The truck started up an embankment and tipped over, landing on top of the station wagon. The passengers of the station wagon were pinned in the wreckage for half an hour before rescuers arrived on the scene. Two women riding in the back seat were able to crawl out of the wreckage.
