1. Confessions of a soccer geek

I have to admit something.
I have to admit something. I am a soccer geek. I will watch the early-round Champions League games before NBA regular-season games. I know more about the U.S. national team players than I do about the Orioles. I got more excited about the end-of-...

Kevin Plank can't help himself.
Kevin Plank can't help himself. The Under Armour CEO might know, in his heart of hearts, that his horse is a long shot against the world's finest 3-year-old thoroughbreds. His farm manager, Tom Mullikin, describes the dark bay colt as more "grinder" than...

7. Cowherd: NFL business is never easy

This kind of thing is always ugly.
This kind of thing is always ugly. John Unitas couldn't have looked more miserable playing for the San Diego Chargers than if they made him play in his underwear. Joe Namath looked so out of place in a Los Angeles Rams uniform you thought he was in...

The Baltimore Sun
When the phone call came, asking if he would present the silver trophy at the Super Bowl in February, Raymond Berry took it for a prank. "You've got to be kidding," he told the caller. "Is this a joke?" Frank Supowitz, the NFL's senior vice president of...

11. Catching Up With Norm Bulaich

He had a funny name, a Texas drawl and churning legs that chewed up yardage. Remember Norm Bulaich, the Baltimore Colts' star running back in their 1970 Super Bowl run? He turns 65 on Christmas. Bulaich can't believe it, either. When he signed up for...

15. Jeff Zrebiec's scouting report: Ravens vs. Jets

RAVENS RUN OFFENSE VS. JETS RUN DEFENSE: The Jets have spent the days leading up to the game answering questions about what has happened to their run defense. Unable to set the edge and deal with the Oakland Raiders’ speed last week, they were gashed for 234 yards on the ground, an average of 7.3 yards per carry by Darren McFadden and company. The Jets currently rank 31st in the NFL in run defense, a surprise considering that they ranked third in the NFL in that category last season, and they boast fast and athletic linebackers in David Harris and Bart Scott. The Ravens didn’t run the ball a lot last week against the St. Louis Rams, but they still accumulated 168 yards on the ground and averaged 6.5 yards per carry. The Ravens are eighth in the league with 383 rushing yards and Ray Rice is ninth in the league with 231 yards despite ranking 20th in the NFL with 41 carries. Rice was shut down by the Jets in last year’s season opener, gaining 43 yards on 21 carries. It’s likely that the Ravens will try to establish him early.

17. No shortage of motivation for Ravens, Jets

There have been more signs of revelry than a heated rivalry. Compliments have been shared, as have T-shirts, and the closest thing to trash talk between the two sides has centered on a meeting that never took place.

Each week, Sun columnist Mike Preston answers a selection of readers' questions about the Ravens latest game and the upcoming game. This week, Preston's conversation this week focuses on the coaches and their effect on the team, Ed Reed's laterals, and, perhaps most importantly, whether the Ravens can beat Peyton Manning and the Colts in Indianapolis if that's the playoff matchup facing the Ravens after Sunday's games.
