As the shot of his life began to lose momentum, Nick Giovanelli envisioned the $100,000 he did not have yet slipping away.
"[The puck] made it about three-quarters of the way, and it looked like it was starting to slow down, and I am like, 'Aw, man, did I not hit it hard enough?''' Giovanelli said. "Then it went in.''
Giovanelli, an Orlando Solar Bears season-ticket holder from St. Cloud, was chosen at random to take a shot at a financial windfall during the ECHL team's regular-season home finale Thursday night against the Florida Everblades at Amway Center. The attempt came during the first intermission.
