Lehigh Valley Phantoms goaltender Alex Lyon says he has no “affection for social media.” He doesn’t even have a Twitter account.
That’s ironic, considering his performance Wednesday night — when he stopped an astounding 94 of 95 shots in the Phantoms’ five-overtime 2-1 playoff win over the Charlotte Checkers — blew up Twitter on Thursday morning.
At 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Brandon Schlager tweeted: “I’m at the longest game in AHL history. Phantoms goalie Alex Lyon has made 92 saves and counting. Roughly 300 people remain in the stands. This is not normal.”
No, there was nothing normal about Lyon’s performance — or the Phantoms’, for that matter.
