“The Tonight Show” host invited the Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby, along with jockey Mike Smith, who rode Justify to the Triple Crown on Saturday, to celebrate their victories this week and take part in a time-honored hockey tradition — filling the Stanley Cup with alcohol.
After he had doled out straws — “Let’s do it like that, civilized,” he said — he found that he and the champions flanking him on either side weren’t embracing the spirit of a Stanley Cup keg stand, or “Cup stand,” properly.
