Panthers pick up Reilly Smith from Bruins, deal Jimmy Hayes

Trade highlights first day of NHL free agency

On the first day of NHL free-agency, the Floirda Panthers' biggest move didn't involve any free agents. General Manager Dale Tallon wanted a right wing with tons of potential, so he ended up trading fellow right wing Jimmy Hayes to his hometown Bruins for Reilly Smith. Smith, 24, a third round pick by Dallas in 2009, played for the Bruins the last two seasons where he had 20 goals and 51 points in 2013-14, including six power-play goals.
