  21. Boys Athlete of the Week: Kevin Mooney, North Harford, baseball

    The Hawks senior threw a perfect game May 22 against North Hagerstown in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association 3A semifinal game. He faced the minimum 21 batters and threw 77 pitches. Mooney's coach, Tim Larrimore, said his pitcher never had more than two balls on a batter and struck out 13 to win the game, 4-0. &quot;He's very determined, very focused," Larrimore said. "Nerves don't get to him." In the 3A championship game Saturday, North Harford lost 4-2, but Mooney allowed just two hits and two earned runs. For the season, Mooney was 9-1 with an 0.44 ERA. Next fall, Mooney will be playing for Maryland.
