Mainland moves to No. 1 in latest Associated Press poll

Daytona Beach Mainland jumped into the top spot of the Class 6A Associated Press poll on Tuesday. The Bucs opened the regular season with a 41-21 win over DeLand. Mainland benefitted in the polls when Miami Central lost 38-14 to DeMatha High School out of Hyattsville, Maryland on Saturday. Miami Central is the three-time defending state champion. Mainland garnered 14 first place votes from sportswriters, earning 176 points this week. Seffner Armwood ranks second with 152 points. Miami Central earned four first place votes and fell to third with 137 points. Apopka strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot over Pembroke Pines Flanagan in Class 8A with 17 first place votes....
