The first two days of competition for the London Olympics have been full of intrigue, upsets and surprise.
From gymnastics to swimming, some Americans have already faltered on the world’s biggest stage. Jordyn Wieber became the first defending world champion to not qualify for the all-around final and Spain’s soccer team, which has dominated international play for the past five years, has already been knocked out.
Michael Phelps failed to medal in the 400 IM after capturing gold in the event in 2004 and 2008, while the American 400 freestyle relay team faltered in the last 100 meters and France took first.
