Traditionally, golfers go quite low in the desert, and they had a chance to do the same on Torrey Pines’ North Course. Phil Mickelson has done neither through his first two starts to his 2018 schedule.

The 47-year-old San Diegan finished Thursday’s opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open with a 2-under 70, but counted a bad three-putt from 8 feet on the 18th – the easiest hole on the North – among his missteps.

Last week, Mickelson missed his first cut in the CareerBuilder Challenge since 1994.
