Trent Jason Green, born July 9, 1970 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a two-time Pro Bowl NFL quarterback, who was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Miami Dolphins on June 6, 2007 for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2008. After starting just five games for the Dolphins, Green sustained a major concussion in the first quarter of the Oct. 7 game against the Houston Texans. He was knocked unconscious for several moments. It was the second major or Grade A concussion sustained by Green in 13 months. In the Chiefs' 2007 season-opener, a scrambling Green was hit, causing him to miss the next eight games. When he returned he was unable to regain his Pro Bowl form of 2005. Although Green has passed all neurological tests and has not experienced any lingering effects, he was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 20, and is out for the season. Green was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL draft (222nd overall pick) after playing college football at Indiana, which is also the alma mater of Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron. He has played 14 seasons in the NFL, and has thrown for over 3,000 yards in six of those years, including three consecutive seasons of more than 4,000 yards while with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2003-05 when he earned his two trips to the Pro Bowl. Green, who signed a three-year deal with the Miami Dolphins worth $12 million with $4.4 million guaranteed, said he will use the offseason to discuss his future with his family and doctors before deciding to continue his playing career or not. Green was 0-5 in his starts with the Dolphins and was leading the league with seven interceptions at the time of his injury. In all, Green has completed 2,228 of 3,668 passes for 27,950 yards, with 162 touchdown passes and 108 interceptions in 117 games, including 112 starts. Green has directed 15 fourth-quarter comebacks. Green's NFL career started slowly as he threw just one pass from 1993 to 1997, which included a non-playing stint in the Canadian Football League. It was Cameron, then Washington's quarterbacks coach, who convinced then Redskins coach Norv Turner to take a chance on Green before the 1995 season. Green rose from No. 4 quarterback in camp and eventually took over for former Dolphins quarterback Gus Frerotte in 1998. That year, Green started 14 games and threw for 3,441 yards with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His stellar season earned Green a lucrative deal with the high-powered St. Louis Rams, but he sustained a season-ending knee injury in a preseason game. Kurt Warner, a former supermarket clerk, took over and led the Rams to the Super Bowl XXXIV championship over the Tennessee Titans. Green and Warner shared time the following season, with Green posting a career-high 101.8 passer rating. Green was traded to the Chiefs along with a fifth-round draft choice for a first-round pick in 2001. After struggling in his first season with the Chiefs to such an extent that a local columnist dubbed him Tr-INT Green because of his career-high 24 interceptions, he began to flourish under then coach Dick Vermeil who utilized an intricately timed passing attack to help Green put together five consecutive seasons of at least 3,690 passing yards or more. In 2003, Green teamed with future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez and star running back Priest Holmes to lead the Chiefs to a 13-3 record and first-round bye before losing a 38-31 shootout to Peyton Manning and the Colts. In 2004, he led the AFC with 4,591 passing yards, trailing former Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper - then with the Vikings. Green had 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions for a 95.2 passer rating. In 2005, Green made his second Pro Bowl by passing for 4,014 yards, joining Dan Fouts, Dan Marino and Manning as the only quarterbacks to topple 4,000 yards in three straight seasons. Green's 2006 season was marred by the aforementioned concussion. In the offseason, Chiefs coach Herm Edwards made it clear to Green that he wanted to get younger at quarterback with Brodie Croyle. Green was first asked to take a pay-cut, but was then given permission to seek a trade. His past relationship with Cameron, the newly named Dolphins coach, and quarterbacks coach Terry Shea - who he worked under in K.C. from 2001-03, seemed a perfect match. After several months of twisting in the wind while the Chiefs were trying to entice a higher draft pick from the Dolphins, the trade was finally consummated on June 5. Because of Green's injury, he won't reach the agreed-upon amount of snaps, so the Dolphins will only have to give Kansas City a fifth-round pick next April. Green, who is married to Juile and is a father of two sons, T.J. and Derek, and daughter Janelle.

Ravens QB Flacco gets a crash course

Just another manic Monday night
These Monday nighters are killing me. Two weeks ago I go into the final game of the week with a lead and lose on Terrell Owens' touchdown catch that wasn't a catch. Postseason pause for a midseason report
There's fantasy football chatter coming up, I promise. But I've got baseball on the brain. Boston baseball, to be exact. I'm not a real Red Sox fan; never have been, never will be. For one, I snicker when I see the Buckner clip. And I never liked Jim...Tags: Donovan McNabb, Tiki Barber, Neil Rackers, Terry Glenn, Daunte Culpepper

The good, bad and ugly

Streak for the ages
