1. Ravens: Looking at five questions during OTAs

From contract negotiations with quarterback Joe Flacco and running back Ray Rice to a potentially season-ending Achilles injury to star linebacker Terrell Suggs to coach John Harbaugh’s comments on the New England Patriots to mercurial safety Ed Reed’s controversial radio interviews, the Ravens have made plenty of off-the-field news this offseason.

3. Observations after first Ravens OTA viewing

The Ravens will finish up the first of three voluntary offseason team activities today, though they’ll do it outside the glare of the media. Yesterday was the one day for media availability, and while no big news came out of it, it was still good to see some action after so much attention has been placed on off-the-field stories over the past couple of months. Making any conclusions after a two-hour practice -- which did not include some of the team’s top veteran players, including running back Ray Rice, linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed, and featured most of the players in jerseys, gym shorts and no shoulder pads -- would be foolish. However, I think it is appropriate to make a couple of observations:

5. Anquan Boldin is ready to mentor, hungry to win

At 31, Anquan Boldin is the oldest receiver on the Ravens roster by a few years (newcomer Jacoby Jones is closest in age at 27). Some of his fellow wide-outs were in middle school when he broke into the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals nine years ago, and they no doubt grew up watching him score touchdowns on TV.

7. Continuity will be key for the Ravens offense

The most significant offensive additions the Ravens made this offseason were free-agent wide receiver Jacoby Jones and a pair of rookie linemen in Kelechi Osemele and Gino Gradkowski. Their personnel losses include Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs and veteran backups in running back Ricky Williams and wide receiver Lee Evans.

The season was a whirlwind for the Ravens' 2011 class of rookies.
The season was a whirlwind for the Ravens' 2011 class of rookies. It swept them up when the NFL lockout ended last July and dropped them at The Castle in Owings Mills a day later for their first training camp. It carried them through a 12-4 season all...

13. Baltimore native LaQuan Williams fighting to keep Ravens roster spot

The continued development of second-year wide receiver Torrey Smith has been evident at the team’s two organized team activities that were open to media. Tandon Doss, who has buffed up a bit, has also caught my eye. And then there’s LaQuan Williams, now in his second NFL season, who continues to exceed expectations.

23. Making sense of yesterday's flurry of activity for Ravens

In a span of a couple of hours last night, the Ravens signed a wide receiver/return specialist, reached a contract extension with a veteran safety, agreed to terms with three of their draft picks and learned that their star pass rusher had successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles’ tendon. It was a lot to digest so here’s a summary and an attempt at explaining what it all means:
