3. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 4.0

The 2012 NFL draft is now just over a week away. Free agency has died down, and teams are shifting their focus to the draft to round out their rosters. The Ravens are no exception. Their primary needs are still the same as they were entering the offseason: offensive line help, a pass rusher and a receiver.

9. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 5.0

Finally, after months of teams poking and prodding NFL draft prospects, scouts picking apart players they had previously pumped up, and media folks like me doing hours of homework trying to make sense of it all, the 2012 NFL draft is less than 48 hours away. I would be lying if I told you that part of me wasn’t ready for all of this just to be over and done with, but still, draft weekend is easily my favorite weekend on the NFL calendar.

11. There's some intrigue left in the NFL draft

I admit I was one of the skeptics when it comes to the NFL draft.
I admit I was one of the skeptics when it comes to the NFL draft. When ESPN started televising it in 1980, I said: "Big guys in pricey suits walking across a stage — who's going to watch that?" Yep, I'm a regular visionary. A Nostradamus for our...

13. With a number of needs, Ravens head into one of the most important drafts in franchise history

For an organization that considers the NFL draft its lifeblood — which is how Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta characterized it earlier this month — there is always a sense of urgency at this time of year.

15. Cowherd: NFL business is never easy

This kind of thing is always ugly.
This kind of thing is always ugly. John Unitas couldn't have looked more miserable playing for the San Diego Chargers than if they made him play in his underwear. Joe Namath looked so out of place in a Los Angeles Rams uniform you thought he was in...

17. Redskins outmaneuver Browns, pull off RG3 blockbuster

It's like The Drive and The Fumble all over again, rolled into one. When news broke late Friday that the Washington Redskins had obtained the No. 2 pick in April's NFL Draft, my thoughts turned to my hometown Cleveland Browns and another opportunity lost.

19. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 3.0

The 2012 NFL draft is three weeks away, and though most teams have solidified their draft boards barring a few tweaks after prospects visit, the “silly season” of draft rumors is really starting to heat up. Need an example? How about the...

21. Assessing the AFC North in free agency

Free agency began four weeks ago today (though after waiting days and days and days for the Ravens to make moves, it feels like it started four months ago). The Ravens lost three starters during the first week of free agency and a few reserves. But they locked down a pair of promising, young defenders in cornerback Lardarius Webb and linebacker Jameel McClain. That’s how the Ravens make a splash.

23. Instant Analysis: Ravens' 2012 schedule

Jeff Zrebiec, reporter: Fretting over how difficult the Ravens' schedule could be in mid-April is a pretty pointless exercise when one training camp injury, extended holdout or botched first-round draft pick can significantly alter a team's fortunes for the 2012-13 season. Sure, the Ravens figure to have their hands full in 2013, but nobody knows if Peyton Manning will instantly make the Broncos an elite team or if the Bengals will continue to take steps forward rather than back or if the Giants will more resemble the team that went 9-7 and nearly didn't make the playoffs or the one that got hot and won another Super Bowl. The good news is the Ravens have the Giants, Patriots and Broncos on their home field, where they've been nearly unbeatable with John Harbaugh at the helm. They also have a group of talented veterans, who are still seething about getting so close to the Super Bowl last year and know that their chances for a title are running out. I wouldn't bank on another 12-4 season, but with relatively good health, a couple of offensive line additions along with a solid draft class, the Ravens will maintain their status as one of the AFC's elite teams.
