MIAMI– Wearing a sand-colored sportcoat he’d been handed as one of the night’s guest of honors, Bryant McKinnie was sharing University of Miami memories with a small group of people when the college, and now NFL teammate, he’d just mentioned strolled into the room.

  5. Ravens wary of winless Colts

The Indianapolis Colts enter Sunday’s game against the Ravens as the only team still searching for its first win of the season. But that doesn’t mean that the home team is taking this week easy.

  7. Ravens news, notes and opinions

This is probably pretty obvious, but it’s important enough to mention that the next 32 hours will be huge in the Ravens’ quest to retain Pro Bowl left guard Ben Grubbs. The Ravens have made what both sides have acknowledged was a substantial offer to Grubbs to convince him to eschew free agency and remain in Baltimore. All indications are that there isn’t much leeway to expand on the offer. Free agents aren’t allowed to negotiate with other teams until 4 p.m. tomorrow, but you can bet that Grubbs’ representative, Pat Dye, has already gotten a good idea about what teams are interested in his client and what they’re willing to pay. If Grubbs goes to free agency, that is a good indication that there will be another offer out there that surpasses the Ravens’ bid. And I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the Ravens then pull their offer and move on from Grubbs. That’s just my speculation based on them knowing they won’t win a bidding war with where they are with their salary cap situation.

  9. Free agent wide receiver market drying up on Ravens

At the NFL Scouting Combine late last month, Ravens coach John Harbaugh acknowledged something that was probably pretty obvious to anybody even remotely familiar with the team’s salary cap situation.

  11. Cundiff surprisingly missed practice Thursday

Starting left guard Ben Grubbs returned to practice Thursday, fully participating. But the Ravens listed kicker Billy Cundiff as sitting out the session. Cundiff was absent due to what the team described as an issue with his left calf. It’s unclear...

  15. Fantasy Fodder: Don't overthink your playoff lineup

Assuming you are in a six- or eight-team league -- and not one of those screwy leagues that ends in Week 17 -- the fantasy football playoffs have arrived. If your team made the playoffs, give yourself a loud slap on the back.

  19. Fantasy Fodder season preview: Ranking fantasy wide receivers

Let's jump in the time machine and flash back in time to the early 2000s when Tom Cruise wasn't a known crazy person, "Freedom Fries" were an innovation in redneck culinary circles and men under the age of 40 wearing visors in public was considered to be socially acceptable. Thanks to Al Gore's Internet invention, fantasy football was starting to blow up -- and we were advised to select running backs with our first 13 or so picks.
