3. Derrick Mason likely to retire as Raven

For six seasons, Derrick Mason left cornerbacks slipping on the turf with his signature comeback routes — cuts that were sharp, surgical, and effective. Now, as he sprints into life after football, Mason may soon swerve back to Baltimore to retire as a member of the Ravens.

  7. WJZ-TV cuts away from incredible Orioles game - Can you say 'Heidi Bowl'?

The decision wasn't in a league with the infamous one NBC made in 1968 to cut away from the ending of an incredible AFC football game to show a rerun of the film "Heidi," but some Baltimore area viewers were feeling a "Heidi Bowl" kind of pain Sunday night when WJZ (Channel 13) left a extra inning Orioles game to carry the top-rated newsmagazine "60 Minutes."

  9. Video: There was a nod to Ray Lewis on 'SNL'

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning hosted “Saturday Night Live” on Saturday night, and since I have little social life to speak of, I happened to catch his performance. Despite mostly awful and unfunny writing, Manning was solid, though he didn’t come close to matching the laughs of his brother, Peyton, from a few years ago.

  13. Could Hightower fall to the Ravens?

Update 9:48 p.m.: With the Jets picking North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples, it creates more of an opportunity for the Ravens to land either Alabama linebackers Courtney Upshaw or Dont'a Hightower. The Ravens also like South Carolina defensive end Melvin Ingram, who had 10 sacks in 2011. Ingram could also play outside linebacker.

  17. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The two names you read here and pretty much everywhere else in the days leading up to the draft as it related to the Ravens and their original 29th overall pick were Alabama linebacker Dont’a Hightower and Wisconsin center Peter Konz. As it turns out, neither was as high on the Ravens’ draft board as we all thought. In a live chat yesterday on the Ravens’ team website, <a href="http://www.baltimoreravens.com/" target="_blank">www.baltimoreravens.com, director of player personnel Eric DeCosta said that the team had about seven players that it really liked in the first round and Hightower was “not one of the players that we would have traded to get.” Again, that doesn’t mean that the Ravens weren’t interested in Hightower, but it does make it pretty clear that they liked several other players better. As for Konz, DeCosta said that that they think he’s going to be a very good player, but they had other players, including Courtney Upshaw, rated higher. My take on it is if the Ravens really liked Konz as much as we thought they did, they would have been willing to trade up five or six spots in the second round to make sure they got him. They did it for running back Bernard Pierce in the third round, even though that didn’t cost as much as it would have to move up and grab Konz. Instead, the Atlanta Falcons selected Konz with the 23rd pick in the second round, and five picks later, the Ravens took Iowa State guard Kelechi Osemele. I guess the moral of the story is don’t believe everything you hear around draft time. Teams, especially ones that take the draft as seriously as the Ravens do, simply aren’t going to expose their hand until it’s absolutely necessary.

  23. Did the Ravens get a late steal in Tommy Streeter?

Despite the uncertainty over who will be their third wide receiver this season, the Ravens waited until the final couple hours of the 2012 NFL draft weekend to address the wide receiver position. Late in the sixth round, the Ravens drafted Miami wide receiver Tommy Streeter. He was the 27th receiver drafted this year, but based on pre-draft rankings from several draft publications and websites, the Ravens got good value with the selection.
