Before last season Laurel High boys basketball Torrence Oxendine said he expected Kirk Hawkins to average about 12 to 15 points per contest.

He averaged about 20 points per game,” said Oxendine, now in his sixth season as the head coach at Laurel High. “He has really improved his mid-range game and decision making.”
Hawkins is now a senior and will be expected to carry the load again for the Spartans, who finished under .500 last season after posting a mark of 9-13 when Hawkins was a sophomore.
