5. Five Ravens who impressed, five who didn't

The Ravens dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars in all facets, rolling to a 48-17 romp in preseason game number three last night at M&T Bank Stadium. FIVE WHO IMPRESSED 1. Joe Flacco, QB: There is a good chance that Flacco won’t play at all in...

  9. Tandon Doss staying out of the speculation business

After an unimpressive rookie campaign that ended with zero catches in just six games, Tandon Doss might be reasonably concerned about his status with the Ravens. But the organization’s fourth-round pick in 2011 said he’s not in the business of trying to figure out what the coaches think.

  11. Mike Preston: Fans should see a different Ravens team vs. the Lions Friday night

There was some panic around town after the Ravens' first-team offense and defense were soundly beaten by the Atlanta Falcons in the preseason opener a week ago, but I don't take much stock in preseason openers on the road.

  13. Ravens news, notes and opinions

Rookies Courtney Upshaw and Bernard Pierce, and veterans like Matt Birk and Ray Lewis are all expected to make their 2012 preseason debuts tonight against the Detroit Lions. But the guy who may be under the microscope the most -- assuming he plays -- is Jimmy Smith. The second-year cornerback appeared to have his back lock up on him late in Wednesday’s practice, forcing him to exit. He missed last week’s preseason opener, and four or five days of practice time, with back spasms. Earlier in camp, he exited one practice after straining his shoulder, and another after cramping up. Smith, a first-round pick last year, came to camp in great shape and looking extremely motivated to push Cary Williams for his starting cornerback job. He spent a lot of time in the offseason at the Ravens’ facility and in the weight room, and team officials raved about his work ethic and commitment. So it has to be disappointing that the injuries have cropped up in training camp, especially after he essentially missed four games last season with a high ankle sprain. Whether he starts or not, the Ravens are going to need him on the field with all of the top quarterbacks and pass-happy teams that they play.

  19. Deonte Thompson working to make impression with coaches

  21. Taking a closer look at Flacco's accuracy in 2011

Joe Flacco’s accuracy was scrutinized throughout the 2011 season, from his 15-for-32 passing performance in a Week 2 loss to the Tennessee Titans to the AFC divisional round win over the Houston Texans, in which Flacco connected with receivers on just 14 of his 27 attempts. His 57.6 completion percentage was a career-low and also the first time it had dipped below 60 percent.

  23. Ravens' news, notes and opinions after Week One of training camp

Ravens left tackle Bryant McKinnie is in town and will be at the Under Armour Performance Center today, but it’s still too early to assume that he will regain his starting left tackle spot. That is because the Ravens have to find out whether he’s healthy enough and in good enough condition to get out on the field. Remember, that was the issue with McKinnie all along before the big left tackle’s absence prompted all sorts of theories about why he didn’t report for training camp. And now, not only will he have to pass the conditioning test and show team officials that he’s in good enough shape, he’s also going to have to prove his back is healthy. McKinnie told reporters the past few days that he hurt his back in an accident at home, and that’s why he didn’t show up for the first full-team workout last week.
