Joe Flacco

Highlights

The Baltimore Ravens drafted quarterback Joe Flacco out of the University of Delaware with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft. Flacco was expected to serve as the Ravens' third-string quarterback as a rookie, but a shoulder injury in training camp landed starter Kyle Boller on injured reserve and backup Troy Smith was sidelined with a severe tonsil infection, elevating Flacco to the team's No. 1 spot.

Flacco started every game for the Ravens as a rookie, leading Baltimore to an 11-5 record. During the regular season he completed 60 percent of his passes (257-for-428) for 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

  7. Remember when: Ravens vs. Bengals, 2009

The Ravens were penalized three times on the Cincinnati Bengals' game-winning drive, setting up quarterback Carson Palmer's 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andre Caldwell with 22 seconds left in front of 71,161 at M&T Bank Stadium on Oct. 11. It was the Ravens' second straight loss and followed a tough setback to the New England Patriots in which penalties also played a role. The defeat, which came against a team that finished 4-11-1 the previous season, dropped the Ravens into a second-place tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.

  9. FANTASY FOOTBALL: Brown and wildcat looking a bit shaky against Patriots' brutal run defense

    Associated Press Writer
Ever since the discovery of the wildcat offense, it's been awfully difficult to take Miami's Ronnie Brown out of any fantasy lineup. This may be the week where you want to show him the bench, though. Brown is coming off a 27-yard game — which ties...

Earlier this year against the Cleveland Browns, Ravens tight end L.J. Smith made the kind of athletic play that perfectly illustrated why the team coveted him as a free agent, and eventually signed him to a $1.5 million deal in the offseason.
