Wanted: A GM who doesn't want to be a real GM
The Bears should’ve made their fans happy with the firing of general manager Jerry Angelo on Tuesday. He made a spectacular move in trading for Jay Cutler, then failed to surround him with the tools needed to make him the franchise quarterback that...
  • Saluting the Bears defense

    Saluting the Bears defense
I can't describe how spectacular the Bears defense was in nearly shutting out the Lions. I don't know if anybody can. But running down that unit's heroics Monday night should be stunning enough. In the first quarter, with the Lions third-and-1 at their...

    Bears' Emery makes statement
I doubt anybody describes Bears general manager Phil Emery as dull today. This is how a new GM gets his point across clearly, by pulling off the type of trade that drops jaws and potentially changes the balance of power in the NFC. This is when you can...

Cutler delivered the way a leader does
Jay Cutler wasn't particularly sharp as a passer against Philadelphia on Monday night. But Jay Cutler was particularly brilliant when it came to being a quarterback. Being a leader. Being a winner. Yeah, Cutler underthrew some deep passes. But when it...

Bad weather, bad offense, bad defense ... good Bears win
Of course there was overtime Sunday. The Bears-Ravens experience just wasn’t long enough. Tornadic conditions. Driving rain. A delay of nearly two hours. The Soldier Field tar pit. Thirteen Bears penalties. No offensive touchdowns until the...

Eagles have some business to finish before winning NFC East
    — A relatively easy schedule, the surreal play of Nick Foles and ability of their defense to pull together and cover up its limitations has helped the Philadelphia Eagles make it to where they are today: at the top of a weak NFC East and in...
  • Stupid, dirty, choking Lions put Trestman, Cutler in control

Stupid, dirty, choking Lions put Trestman, Cutler in control
When Sunday dawned, the Lions held the NFC North lead. By Monday night, they were holding their heads. And their own throats. The Lions became the Lions. It’s like the Canucks becoming the Canucks. The Cubs in shoulder pads. The Lions’...

Real refs get their deal, owners get pantsed by their lackey Goodell
Now we know what the NFL’s embarrassment level is: Getting pantsed on national television. Getting pantsed twice, in fact. First, Roger Goodell and the village idiots who own teams watched two-bit officials blow the original call against Green Bay...

How much is Cutler worth now and who do you blame?
Jay Cutler was the last of three quarterbacks to get knocked out of a game because of a concussion Sunday, which brings trouble and questions. How much are Cutler’s capacities diminished? How much is his upcoming contract value diminished? How...
