He is a four time First or Second Team All-Pro (2000-2002, 2006), and a two time NFL Alumni Association Defensive Lineman of the Year (2005, 2006).
He enjoyed the best year of his career in 2006 when he recorded 13.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, recovered two fumbles, and corralled two interceptions, returning both for touchdowns. At the conclusion of that season he was named the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In his four-year collegiate career at the University of Akron he started three seasons and tallied 279 tackles, 41 stops for loss, 21 sacks, seven fumble recoveries, eight forced fumbles and three interceptions. He was a two-time First Team All-Mid American Conference selection as a junior and senior, as well as an All-America pick as a junior.
Taylor, who majored in political science/ criminal justice, also lettered on the Akron basketball team, a natural fit for his 6-foot-6 frame.
Despite being home-schooled from 10th to 12th grade, Taylor participated in athletics at Woodland Hills High School in Churchill, Pennsylvania, where he was a two-sport star in both football and basketball.
Taylor is one of the nation's most marketable and image conscious athletes of this generation, and he often puts his notoriety to good use.
In July of 2004, he established the Jason Taylor Foundation (website: www.jasontaylorfoundation.com) with a mission of "supporting and creating programs that facilitate the personal growth and empowerment of South Florida's children in need by focusing on improved health care, education and quality of life."
He annually hosts numerous events to raise funds for his organization. In 2006, The Jason Taylor Foundation contributed more than $225,000 in grants and program services to local organizations dedicated to helping children.
In 2007 a 26 foot animatronic - the largest ever built - of Taylor was commissioned by the NFL to promote the historic New York Giants/Miami Dolphins game at Wembley Stadium on October 28th 2007.
He is married to Katina Taylor, sister of teammate Zach Thomas. Taylor also shares the same birthday (Sept. 1,1974) with Thomas, albeit the two were born a year apart. Jason and Katina have two sons, Isaiah Paul and Mason Paul, and a daughter, Zoe Grace.
