1. Scouting report: Ravens vs. Rams

RAVENS RUN OFFENSE VS. RAMS RUN DEFENSE: The Rams' rush defense is last in the NFL, having surrendered an average of 177.5 yards. St. Louis could be the ideal opponent for the Ravens to reestablish their running game, which was ineffective last week in the loss to the Tennessee Titans. To get Ray Rice going, the Ravens will have to account for Rams middle linebacker James Laurinaitis, who made 14 tackles last week and led the Rams with 129 tackles last season. Veteran defensive tackle Fred Robbins' main responsibility is occupying blockers and keeping them off Laurinaitis. The return of guard Ben Grubbs would certainly be a nice boost for the Ravens. If he remains out with a toe injury, the Ravens could start Mark LeVoir, who got the call last week, or use Andre Gurode. The Ravens have averaged 107.5 yards on the ground, 12th in the NFL

1.People probably should have waited more than, oh, two games to declare Torrey Smith a bust in the NFL. It is sort of remarkable -- and maybe a little sad -- how many Ravens fans seemed to be elbowing one another out of the way in an attempt to be...

7. St. Louis Post-Dispatch Tipsheet column

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Rams coach Jeff Fisher is a confident fellow. So is his general manager, Les Snead. They don't crave validation from the national media. But they got it anyway after aggressively filling team needs during the 2013 NFL Draft. The Rams traded up to...

9. Rams hope Ogletree has learned a tough lesson

St. Louis Post-Dispatch
One veteran agent, who knows basically everybody in the NFL, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch last week: "Nobody likes him." It wouldn't be surprising if some close to coach Jeff Fisher told him not to do it. He did it. Fisher and the Rams...

21. Cutler off the mark against Rams

The Bears didn't need Jay Cutler to be on his game to win Sunday, and it's a good thing.
The Bears didn't need Jay Cutler to be on his game to win Sunday, and it's a good thing. Cutler usually is a pretty accurate passer, but his throws frequently were not where they should have been against the Rams. He completed 54.8 percent of his...

23. Reader Q&A: Dan Pompei's Bears mailbag

I know Brian Urlacher thinks he can play another two years, and given he's the oldest player on defense, do you think the Bears will look to draft a guy to replace him as early as next spring? If so, who would be the best option? Replacing a guy like Urlacher is going to be nearly impossible, but this is the team that invented the middle linebacker, so I know it'll happen. If not next year, then hopefully sooner rather than the seven years it took to find a replacement for Mike Singletary. What are your thoughts? J. Ryan Miller
