1. Ravens news and notes after second OTA

I feel like I have to preface every one of these post-OTA observation blogs by offering the reminder that drawing any conclusions from these workouts would be foolish on my part. Still, some players clearly make a bigger impression than others and I can say without hesitation that nobody stood out more in yesterday’s session than second-year wide receiver LaQuan Williams. First of all, conditioning was not the issue for him, but Williams looks even leaner and much more explosive than he did during his rookie season. And during drills, Williams showed great speed and tremendous hands, even making a one-handed catch in traffic at one point on a Joe Flacco pass. Williams also beat Lardarius Webb on a couple of occasions along the sideline. With 12 receivers on the Ravens’ roster and the addition of several accomplished special teams players, Williams likely faces another uphill battle to make the team. But something tells me that’s just the way he wants it and he’s more than up for the challenge.

  3. Continuity will be key for the Ravens offense

The most significant offensive additions the Ravens made this offseason were free-agent wide receiver Jacoby Jones and a pair of rookie linemen in Kelechi Osemele and Gino Gradkowski. Their personnel losses include Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs and veteran backups in running back Ricky Williams and wide receiver Lee Evans.

  5. Joe Flacco's focus is on field and Ravens teammates, not contract status

Joe Flacco took a couple of steps to his right, spotted Ed Dickson about 10 yards down the field and lofted a pass between two defenders that the young tight end hauled in.

  7. Even in the offseason, the Ravens are giving back

The Ravens don’t play their first preseason game until three months from now, and veteran players aren’t obligated to be in Baltimore until a mandatory minicamp next month. But that hasn’t stopped many of the players from taking an active role in the community during their downtime this offseason. Matt Birk’s charity event on Monday night was a great example.

  11. Ravens trade out of first round

After waiting several hours and seeing a number of their potential first-round targets still on the board, the Ravens decided that their best move was to fall back.

  13. Ravens undrafted free agent class at a glance: Offense

The Ravens’ front office has long been admired for its decision making during the draft, but Ozzie Newsome, Eric DeCosta and Company also take great pride in the work that they do in the couple of hours following its conclusion. Offensive lineman Mike Flynn and linebackers Bart Scott, Jameel McClain and Dannell Ellerbe are among the undrafted free agents that the Ravens have signed and developed into key contributors.

  15. Used to heavy free agent defections, Bisciotti focuses on gains, not losses

While there was plenty of angst among Ravens' fans earlier this month when several of their key players, including left guard Ben Grubbs and linebacker Jarret Johnson, left in free agency, team owner Steve Bisciotti greeted the news with acceptance. Don'...

  21. Ravens' focus is on development, not free agent fixes

The NFL free agency period starts Tuesday afternoon, but there isn't much buzz surrounding the Ravens. Actually, it's pretty ho-hum, and likely to remain that way for a while.

  23. In NFL draft, Ravens typically get 'the itch' to trade

At some point in next week's NFL draft, the Ravens will get the itch. It's usually a good itch, and few teams, if any, have been as successful at scratching it as they have been the past two decades.
