1. Anquan Boldin is ready to mentor, hungry to win

At 31, Anquan Boldin is the oldest receiver on the Ravens roster by a few years (newcomer Jacoby Jones is closest in age at 27). Some of his fellow wide-outs were in middle school when he broke into the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals nine years ago, and they no doubt grew up watching him score touchdowns on TV.

  3. At wide receiver, the Ravens have the numbers but not the experience

The Ravens may lack experience at the wide receiver position, but they certainly don’t lack depth. How much quality exists within that depth remains to be seen.

  5. Asa Jackson eager to learn from Ray Lewis, Ed Reed

As of Sunday, it still hadn’t quite set in to Ravens rookie cornerback Asa Jackson that he was practicing on an NFL football field. “I’m working toward getting in that mindset every day,” he said of making the transition to the professional ranks. But Jackson, a fifth-round draft pick out of Cal Poly, showed up with the right attitude.

  7. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The two names you read here and pretty much everywhere else in the days leading up to the draft as it related to the Ravens and their original 29th overall pick were Alabama linebacker Dont’a Hightower and Wisconsin center Peter Konz. As it turns out, neither was as high on the Ravens’ draft board as we all thought. In a live chat yesterday on the Ravens’ team website, <a href="http://www.baltimoreravens.com/" target="_blank">www.baltimoreravens.com, director of player personnel Eric DeCosta said that the team had about seven players that it really liked in the first round and Hightower was “not one of the players that we would have traded to get.” Again, that doesn’t mean that the Ravens weren’t interested in Hightower, but it does make it pretty clear that they liked several other players better. As for Konz, DeCosta said that that they think he’s going to be a very good player, but they had other players, including Courtney Upshaw, rated higher. My take on it is if the Ravens really liked Konz as much as we thought they did, they would have been willing to trade up five or six spots in the second round to make sure they got him. They did it for running back Bernard Pierce in the third round, even though that didn’t cost as much as it would have to move up and grab Konz. Instead, the Atlanta Falcons selected Konz with the 23rd pick in the second round, and five picks later, the Ravens took Iowa State guard Kelechi Osemele. I guess the moral of the story is don’t believe everything you hear around draft time. Teams, especially ones that take the draft as seriously as the Ravens do, simply aren’t going to expose their hand until it’s absolutely necessary.

  9. Ravens need rookies or young veterans to step up

It's going to be interesting on draft day when the New York Jets are on the clock at No. 16, and then again before the Pittsburgh Steelers select at No. 24.

  13. Even after big day of signings, Ravens still looking to fill holes

  15. Return specialist a pressing need for Ravens

It was hardly a secret that the Ravens were interested in acquiring a return specialist this offseason. After all, they had Ted Ginn Jr. in for a visit before he re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers and they were reportedly linked to receiver and returner Eddie Royal, who eventually joined the San Diego Chargers.

  19. Game 15: Ravens sitting pretty even if win wasn't

They lost numerous contributors to injuries, surrendered another huge play on special teams and allowed a four-win Cleveland Browns team to turn what appeared to be a Christmas Eve cakewalk into a tense fourth quarter.

  23. Ravens starting to get banged-up players back

Four days after limping out of M&T Bank Stadium with a 20-14 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Ravens had starting cornerback Cary Williams, starting defensive end Cory Redding and kicker Billy Cundiff in practice Wednesday. However, right guard Marshal Yanda, a first-time Pro Bowl selection, remained sidelined by the rib contusion he suffered Saturday.
