Several universities passed on Culpepper because of poor grades, but UCF offered him a scholarship were he played under Gene McDowell and Mike Kruczek, who also had coaching stints with Florida State and the Arizona Cardinals. Culpepper became only the third athlete in NCAA history to finish his career with over 10,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards. Alcorn State alum Steve McNair and Idaho's Doug Nussmeier also did so.
The 6-4, 265 lb. quarterback completed seven seasons with the Vikings, working with pro-bowl receiver Randy Moss. He led the team to its second playoff appearance in 2004, earned his third Pro Bowl appearance and had his best statistical season including a team record 39 touchdowns. He experienced a career low the following season and suffered a devastating knee injury, tearing three major ligaments, during an Oct. 30, 2005 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Culpepper was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2006 where he experienced a rocky relationship with then-coach Nick Saban. He spent the majority of the season on injury reserve rehabbing his knee and shoulder injury. On July 31, 2007, he was signed to the Oakland Raiders as a free agent and entered his ninth NFL season.

It's an honor to be on box, but not great for one's health
tom.rock@newsday.comIt's an honor to be selected for the cover of the Madden NFL video game box, but it also can be a horror. Some people believe there is a curse or a jinx associated with the placement. But the players who've been there say it's merely coincidence. They...Tags: Super Bowl, Michael Vick, Multi-Sport Events, Marshall Faulk, Dorsey Levens

Grossman should have to earn QB job
Why don't I trust the Bears when they declare that the quarterback position will feature real, live competition in training camp? Bear with Us
I'm a firm believer in KSK, but sadly, their R-rated-but-hilarious language leads me not to link to it directly. If you haven't experienced KSK yet and you don't mind a few f-bombs and raunchy humor, just Google it and enjoy. If you have experienced KSK,...Tags: Super Bowl, Rex Grossman, Jamar Williams, Tommie Harris, Darwin Walker
