1. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The common conclusion from the Ravens’ decision to re-sign Bryant McKinnie was that the organization wasn’t yet comfortable with the idea of Kelechi Osemele starting at left tackle. I’m sure there is plenty of truth to that even though team officials suggest that’s not the case. However, the reason why the McKinnie move was a no-brainer – at least in my mind – was that the Ravens couldn’t risk potentially weakening two positions along the offensive line. Osemele may very well develop into a quality left tackle in the NFL. However, who replaces Osemele at left guard? Osemele was dominant at times when he moved from right tackle to left guard for the playoff run. Could Jah Reid play at that high of a level? How about Ramon Harewood or fifth-round draft pick Rick Wagner? The Ravens’ offense made too many strides last year to start the coming season with a completely new pairing on the left side of the offensive

  11. Scouting report for Ravens vs. Broncos

RAVENS PASSING GAME: It will be interesting to see new offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell's influence on the play-calling and game plan. The expectation is that the Ravens will loosen the reins on quarterback Joe Flacco, who feels he's at his best in the no-huddle offense. Flacco threw three first-half touchdowns in last Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins, but he turned the ball over twice. Wide receiver Torrey Smith has three catches or fewer in four of his past five games.

    Ravens 13, Steelers 10

  17. More on the Ravens and small-school NFL prospects

For the first time in a decade, the Ravens last weekend drafted three players from college football programs that were below the Division I FBS (formerly I-A) level. As Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta put it, the Ravens “had to manufacture some runs this year” because the team’s draft board was similar to those of the NFL’s 31 other teams and 147 of their top 150 players were selected.

  23. Building a team with the best draft picks in Ravens history

Fifteen years ago, the Ravens selected UCLA offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden and Miami linebacker Ray Lewis -- the two best players in franchise history -- in the first round of their first draft in Baltimore. Since then, the Ravens have continued to find productive players in the NFL draft, especially with their first-round selections.
