1. Anquan Boldin is ready to mentor, hungry to win

At 31, Anquan Boldin is the oldest receiver on the Ravens roster by a few years (newcomer Jacoby Jones is closest in age at 27). Some of his fellow wide-outs were in middle school when he broke into the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals nine years ago, and they no doubt grew up watching him score touchdowns on TV.

3. The Last Word with Trenton Hughes

Maryland cornerback Trenton Hughes started all 13 games of a junior season highlighted by a big game (seven tackles, forced fumble) in a win over a ranked North Carolina State team in 2010. But Hughes had to make some adjustments in 2011. The Terps had a new coach in Randy Edsall, and Hughes was no longer starting. But Hughes, who is from Virginia Beach, Va., won back his starting position for the last three games. He recently signed a free-agent deal with the Miami Dolphins and leaves Thursday for rookie minicamp, which opens Friday.

5. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 5.0

Finally, after months of teams poking and prodding NFL draft prospects, scouts picking apart players they had previously pumped up, and media folks like me doing hours of homework trying to make sense of it all, the 2012 NFL draft is less than 48 hours away. I would be lying if I told you that part of me wasn’t ready for all of this just to be over and done with, but still, draft weekend is easily my favorite weekend on the NFL calendar.

7. 'Madden NFL 13' details: Calvin 'Megatron' Johnson on the cover and a facelift within

While its Aug. 28 release date feels a long way off, we know a lot more about "Madden NFL13" than we did yesterday.
While its Aug. 28 release date feels a long way off, we know a lot more about "Madden NFL13" than we did yesterday. For one, we know polarizing Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will not be gracing the game’s cover. Newton lost out to Detroit...

13. Ravens practice patience with free agency

Relatively quiet over the first 10 days of free agency, the Ravens dipped into the open market [Friday], signing four players in moves that will upgrade the team's linebacking and secondary depth and bolster special teams coverage units that struggled last season.

15. 2012 NFL free agency primer: the offensive linemen

The Ravens would like to improve their offensive line during the offseason, but the best move they could make in free agency would be re-signing Ben Grubbs, who could soon be one of the top guards available. The Ravens recently said that they have already offered big money to Grubbs -- and there’s no reason not to believe that claim -- but if Grubbs, who turns 28 this month, hits the open market, he could be gone for good.

17. 2012 NFL free agency primer: the defensive linemen

Houston Texans defensive end turned outside linebacker Mario Williams will be the marquee free agent this offseason not named Peyton Manning. (Interesting side note: The Texans drafted Williams No. 1 overall in part due to Manning’s presence in the AFC South and now they will both hit the market at the same time.) He is a natural at defensive end in a 4-3 defense, but did well enough in 2011 to garner interest from 3-4 teams.

21. Ravens would like to add a veteran guard, but options are mostly underwhelming

The Ravens have said on several occasions that they plan to give second-year tackle Jah Reid every opportunity to win the left guard job and replace Pro Bowl performer Ben Grubbs. They have a history of giving younger players opportunities, so there is no reason to think that is lip service. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t also bring in a veteran to compete for the job and serve as insurance. That remains very much in the team’s plans, and they have spoken to several agents of guards to discuss potential fits. However, the Ravens don’t have a whole lot of money to spend and there are not a whole lot of quality options at their disposal. Below is a look at 10 guards that they have considered:

23. Matt Vensel's 2012 NFL mock draft -- version 3.0

The 2012 NFL draft is three weeks away, and though most teams have solidified their draft boards barring a few tweaks after prospects visit, the “silly season” of draft rumors is really starting to heat up. Need an example? How about the...
